- Marriage*: Thomas Summerville Greyard married Mary Robinson on 23 May 1953 at Elizabethtown, Bladen Co., NC, ELIZABETHTOWN—in a wedding of dignity and simple beauty here Saturday afternoon at 4:00 o'clock in the Elizabethtown Presbyterian Church Miss Mary Robinson, daughter of Mrs. Herman Harwood Robinson and the late Mr. Robinson became the
bride of Thomas Summerville Greyard, Jr., son of Mrs. T. S. Greyard of McDonald, and the
late Mr. Greyard, the sacred vows being spoken to the Rev. R. L. McBath, pastor of the bride and
groom. The chancel of the church was lovely in a simple nuptial suiting,
long leaf pines being used as a background, inter-spersed with floor baskets of white and mixed
summer flowers, and candelabra holding burning Cathedral candles. Mrs. D. M. Calhoun, organist,
presented a program of nuptial music prior to the ceremony. At the ceremony hour, Mrs. Newman Miller of Bennettsville, S. C., sister
of the groom sang, "All For
You", "I Love Thee" and "The Lord's Prayer" was sung as a benediction. Mrs. Calhoun played the traditional wedding marches as a processional and recessional. The bride was attended by her only sister, Miss Harriet Robinson of Lumberton as maid of honor. She was attired in pale yellow net over satin, made floor
length. The tight fitting bodice was strapless, and she wore a cape of the same material. She carried an arm boquet of yellow
and lavendar pom poms, tied with lavondar satin ribbon, and wore a floral bandeau in her hair. Other bridesmaids were- Mrs.
Jean Poirier, Mrs. Linwood Bryan, Jr.. of Oxford, Mrs. Henry Becker, Snow Hill, and Miss Anne Victoria McDaniel. They wore
lavendar net dresses fashioned similar to that worn by the maid of honor, and carried yellow and
lavendar pom poms. The bride entered on the arm of her brother, Herman Harwood Robinson, Jr., by whom she was given in marriage. She was attired
in a handsome wedding
gown of Chantilly lace, over bridal white satin. The tight fitting bodice, with point in front, had a deep yoke of illusion, and long
sleeves with calla lily points over the hand. Tiny medallions of the lace completed the deep yoke at
the throat. The full skirt came to a point in the back overlapping a train of ruffled net. Her wedding
boquet was of white orchids and valley lilies, elaborately showered.
Following the wedding, a reception was held at the home of the bride's mother, after which they left for a honeymoon trip of undisclosed destination. On their return they will make their home in McDonald, Robeson county. For traveling, Mrs. Greyard wore a white linen suit, with black patent accessories, and the orchid
from her wedding boquet.
The bride, member of a prominent Bladen county family of the Cape Fear section, was educated
at the local high school, East Carolina College, and the Richmond Professional Institute. Since her graduation she has been Case worker for the Bladen County Welfare Department. Mr. Greyard was educated at Rowland High school, Davidson
College, and was graduated from the University of North Carolina, he did graduate work at the Medical College of Virginia. He is now administrator of the Bladen
