    On the 29th day of August 1832 personally appeared in open court before the Justices of said Court now sitting, being a court of Record, Joseph Wren of said County aged 75 years who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following statement and declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the act of Congress passed 7th June 1832, To Wit: some time in the month of June 1780 when a resident of the County of Lincoln and State aforesaid, he was a volunteer as a militia soldier – that he was called out to serve & the length of service called to perform, is not recollected, that he met at one Robert Alexander's near the Tuckaseegee Ford on the Catawba River about the 20th of June of that year, and attached himself to the Regiment under Colonel William Graham then of Lincoln County, from thence they were marched in pursuit of the Tories in that part of the country, and
    against the Tories in South Carolina, we were scouring the country up and down Broad River, and then we were marched [to] a River called Green River the names of the counties not recollected, we caught and took Prisoners some Tories at the High Shoals of Broad River and sent them to Salisbury, we caught and Took Prisoners many Tories in other places, and all were sent to Salisbury who did not join the service, some Joined the service. In this kind of service under Samuel Martin as Captain he served
    for three months and was then discharged at Beatties Ford on the Catawba River and received a
    discharge in due form as he believes, but he has long since lost the discharge. In the year 1781 in the month of March perhaps the last day of March, he was drafted in the
    militia & served a three months Tour, he met at Warrenton and was then marched to a place called Miller's old place to me other Troops. From thence, the Troops were marched to Harrisburg in the County of Granville & State of North Carolina where they were placed under the command of General Butler [John Butler]. From thence they was marched to the High Rock Ford on Haw River. From there
    the Troops were marched to Guilford Court House where the battle was fought called the Battle of Guilford. From that Battle he was marched to a place called Troublesome Creek on Haw River near some Iron works; From thence he went to Ramsey's mill on Deep River, there the Troops were divided some were sent under General Green [sic, Nathanael Greene] to the South the others continued at and
    about that place for some time until the month of May & this affiant was one who remained under General Butler. From thence was together with the Troops marched to Wake Court House in the County of Wake North Carolina and from thence on to Abernathy's not far distant where he and the other Troops were discharged, having served three months. He received a discharge but has long since lost it. He is unable to prove his first Tour of three months because he knows of no one now alive who was with him. He therefore has to rely on his own oath to establish it. As to the second Tour, he can prove and does hereby prove by the oath of Francis Riggan1 & Frederick Sherrin [sic, Shearin2] that he
    performed that service because they were with him. This affiant is 75 years old he has no Register of his age. He was born upon Tarripen [sic, Terrapin] Creek in the County then called Granville now Warren County North Carolina. And he has
    continued to live in the County now called Granville in the County of Warren where he now lives ever
    since the aforesaid military service.
    He hereby relinquishes every claim to a Pension or pensions except the present and declares that
    his name is not on the Pension Roll of any State.

    Wren served a three months Tour of Militia duty during the Revolutionary war commencing the first of
    March or the last of February 1781 that he was at the Battle of Guilford and was afterwards discharged
    at Abernathy's as set forth in his affidavit in the month of May following making a three months Tour
