She was picking cotton in late fall (November?), the ground was frozen. she had some new shoes, but she also had some old ones with holes in them and she wouldn't wear the new ones, so her feet were about frozen and as a result she had a stroke later that night which she didn't recover from.

Faulkner signed an oath stating that he was acquainted with John A. Falkner and Eliza Renn of Kittrell Township and knew that they were both over eighteen years of age.
  John W. Merrit bondsman. From Eliza Renn's Marriage Certificate, she states that her father is dead. She did not list his name but she did list her mother as Jackey Renn and that she was still living.⁴
